I just voted thusly in the Hottest 100 for 2010:
Laura Marling - Alpha Shallows
Laura Marling - Rambling Man
Abbe May - Mammalian Locomotion
Jonsi - Animal Arithmetic
Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood
Angus And Julia Stone - Big Jet Plane
Mama Kin - To My Table
Jezabels, The - Easy To Love
Jezabels, The - Mace Spray
Washington - Underground

Also, while I was trawling through myspace, a beautiful, large Daddy long legs made its way down my wall. It's rare that I can get that close to such a large one.

I voted for:
Bertie Blackman – Heart
Laura Marling – Goodbye England
Lily Allen – 22
Lisa Mitchell – Coin Laundry (the one most likely to win of hers, and my second fav)
Lisa Mitchell – Valium (my fav song of hers)
Mama Kin – Tore My Heart Out (Perth band! headed by a woman! The song is awesome all on its own, too :P)
Sally Seltmann - Harmony To My Heartbeat
Sarah Blasko – We Won’t Run
Regina Spektor – Blue Lips
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Hysteric

Note: Yup, all women or women-fronted, because clearly after the Hottest 100 of all time, we're not being heard, and the songs sung by men that I've loved (Mumford and Sons -- Little Lion Man, Pearl Jam -- The Fixer) don't exactly need my single vote...

Voting closes on the 17th!

I was standing in a beautiful kitchen in Adelaide this morning, listening to Triple J, and on comes Placebo's new song Battle for the sun. Cue much joy, for so many reasons -- it's a dark, sexy song, and then there are the lyrics:

I will battle for the Sun
And I won’t stop until I’m done,
You are getting in the way,
And I have nothing left to say…

...

Dream brother, My killer, My lover
Dream brother, My killer, My brother

It's got a Sam/Dean apocalypse-final-show-down, staring at each other from opposing sides all over it. *has a Moment*

*edited to remove the 'stutter' :P

Heard on 6EBA's late night cycle of songs:
a man's deep voice, with a slow guitar (finger picking?)

Lyrics (paraphrased somewhat):
"There's a madman out on the highway, going on a killing spree...
God bless the rain, and god bless the train. God bless the warm sunshine, and god bless the pain"

I've tried Googling with no luck.
Any ideas, anyone?
Ha! There's a page out there somewhere (possibly on TVtropes?) that lists all the 'um, you didn't actually listen to that song before you decided to use it in your ad, did you?' moments.

Just heard on the radio, my contender: an ad for a bed company, set to the gentle piano of Gary Jules' cover of Mad World. Whups.
I heard Saltwater Band on RTR FM at least a month ago now. I looked them up, found that 78 Records had one of their albums for sale online and impulse ordered it. It didn't arrive until last week, and then there was the tangle of getting the package to a convenient post office so I could go sign for it, then being busy/distracted until I could even unwrap it tonight.

And tonight I'm feeling raw and overexposed and this is exactly what I needed to hear. *tips head back and blisses out*
