RE the murder mystery, I actually quite liked that because I usually hate them and didn't hate this one. I am dedicated enough to urban fantasy that the secrecy element doesn't actually even phase me, but I also liked that it was creepy and not softened. I don't know how it managed that without actually becoming horror to me, but there you go.
