Oooh, yes please to both the Hugos and Nebulas. Now that I've had the headspace to go digging for samples:
I really want to love Kowal (I adored Lady Astronaut of Mars etc), but I keep bouncing off her novels :/
I am so entranced by The Poppy War -- the sample was legit amazing -- but I've been made aware that it goes brutal, trigger-warning to the max in the second half, and I *want* to be able to deal with that, but the sample has that 'she is not safe' unease looong before things go brutal, and I don't know how I'll do.
Blackfish City looks amazing -- I'll totally grab that and swap you for the Roanhorse?
Spinning silver -- I want to love Novik, but I don't trust her at all after that staggeringly blatant and unrebuked victim blaming in Uprooted. :(
Witchmark is wavering back and forth between button-mashing-joy and too-obvious writing so far. It's still second on my buy list so far.
Here endeth an unasked take on the Nebulas? *wry grin*
