Easement
At work I'm currently re-housing subdivision files from the 1970s, and I keep coming across notes at the bottom of letters: "Encl. easements (3)".
What I want it to mean: "Easement: a process or ritual used to soothe a person in distress."
I'm visualising a culture in which there are healers of mind and body whose role it is to come and sit with people who are freaking out, to be with them and hear them, and to perform the easement.
The actual meaning is far more prosaic (and there's a word that for a long time I thought meant its exact opposite): Easement via Google.
