Spooks Drabbles
A week ago I watched an episode of Spooks that handed me a tiny, innocent-looking plot bunny, and I've been 'busy' writing two (connected) drabbles.
Spooks is a show about a group of MI5 agents (British internal security). Main characters are friends Tom, Zoë and Danny, along with their boss Harry. The end of season 2 saw Tom framed for a whole lot of Bad Things and being hunted by MI5.
Opening of season 3 saw Harry head hunt a guy called Adam from MI6 to replace Tom (whom many people thought was dead). As it turns out, Tom is still alive and the episode is all about Tom and his friends fighting to clear his name. The climax of the ep is Adam quietly coaxing a confession out of Tom's framer and then just as gently talking her into committing suicide. She grabs Adam's hand before she shoots herself and there is a close up of him easing his hand from her grip after she's dead. Tom and his friends are listening over headsets to the confession and much is made of the fact that (after an initial clash of opinions) Tom approves of Adam's actions and thinks he's a good agent. Tom later brings Adam along when Tom breaks up with his girlfriend and one of the final scenes show the two of them standing together on a bridge, the perfect unit. :D

Hands
Tom stepped up into the back of the van. Zoë and Danny and Harry and … for one terrible instant, the world froze.
Adam recovered first and stuck out his hand.
"Adam Carter," he said. He'd always had the slightly faster reaction time.
Tom didn't look down, didn't dare touch Adam's hand. Confirming his existence would mean the shock would give way to relief and anger, and on the heels of that was the strain and exhaustion of the last few days that he couldn't afford to feel.
He brushed past Adam's hand. Later, they could deal with it later.

Adam was hunched over the bathroom sink when Tom came to check on him; he flashed Tom a tight little grimace of a smile and reached for the soap again. Tom let him lather, scrub and rinse before leaning over and turning off the tap.
"You were brilliant," Tom murmured. He wrapped his arms around Adam's waist and rested his chin on Adam's shoulder with a little sigh of relief; they still fitted.
"Just like you would have done, huh?" The smile was slightly less forced.
Tom interlaced their fingers and, raising their hands, pressed a kiss onto Adam's palm.

It was such an incredibly short-lived pairing (I'd been spoiled, so I knew what was going to happen), so when I watched that episode I was in ecstasy/agony because I knew it wasn't going to last but I'd had no idea they were going to be so perfect together, you know?
