Yuletide was a slightly weird one for me this year. I was delighted with who I matched with, and wrote near-enough ten thousand words worth of scenes in mini-nano in November. I had the vast bulk of the material written, and then I stalled hard, from 1st December onwards, uploaded an incomplete draft, got quite reasonably pinged for it by the mods, and smashed out an actual frame-worked, sense-making fic (including beta and re-edited) in the 72 or so hours before the archive went live. M, I could not have done that without you, and your hand holding, and your betaing. Holy shit.

I...never want to write like that again. I want to be able to keep up my momentum from patchy ideas into finished work (this was totally one of those times where the original ordering of scenes got almost entirely turned on its head, for example. And it still all Worked). That said, I also produced probably the best things I've written to date, sooo. That's not nothing? I itch to go back and do one last editing smooth, but it's Out There now, and I should leave it the hell alone.

Is my main gift, and is in the odd position of not matching my prompt at all (which, tbf, was not required of it), but is an interesting and emotionally honest fic in its own right, exploring the differences between idealised relationships and, say, who people actually are.

Is a glorious treat. It requires a fresh knowledge of a pretty obscure historical fantasy-ish book, and I'm so sad it's probably not going to get the respect it deserves because of that. It's a wonderful, warm piece and I love it so.

Dear Kamikaze remix person,

I don't know if you'll ever see this, but on the off-chance, I figured I'd write and say 'hi, I realise in retrospect I haven't so much given you a fic to remix as an idea to play with'. Or at least, I hope that's how you're viewing it... To that end, have fun with it! Or write something deeply angsty. Hey, that's fun, right? *coughs*

Take it wherever your muses decide to run away with it. Which is sort of the idea of remix, but sometimes it helps to hear that. *grins*

Dear Apocalypse writer,

Firstly, Apocalypse fic! Wheee! Just the idea of this pleases me mightily. Go for broke, say I. If you lean towards fluffy Gen fic, go for it, if you can manage the fluff! If you lean towards nihilist threesome smutfests, go for that. Whatever you write I’ll delight in it simply because it’s apocalypse fic, and for me.

That said, if you’re looking for pointers... )
Title: Under her skin
Fandom: X-men (movieverse)
Challenge: From the [livejournal.com profile] 1character community: one character, fifty themes, fifty sentences. In this case, movieverse Rogue (using the 'theme set' Alpha).
Disclaimer: Not mine; no profit, not so much as breaking even, here.
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Spoilers for all 3 X-Men movies. Some of these sentences are based on two femslash drabbles found here: Push/Pull. Love and chocolate to [livejournal.com profile] vegetariansushi for betaing each of these as they emerged. Patience of a saint, I swear. Thank you, pretty.
Summary: Asking her if she thinks about it is like asking an amputee if they think about their missing limb.

(Edited to remove the friends-lock, because it seems ridiculous to lock something when it's now openly available somewhere else.)

Last semester I found out the uni mag was doing a short story competition. I dug out one of the few half-way decent stories I've started AND finished and submitted it maybe a day before the deadline. This Tuesday I stumble across a copy of said magazine and discover that out of the 100 or so entries I made the shortlist of 15. They managed to spell my name wrong, but I so don't care :) I'm floating between elation and mortification: for some reason I'm physically incapable of reading my work on the published page.

So, in the spirit of being too embarrassed to read my own work back, (It's utterly unchanged, even though I can think of a thousand things I'd do different, including the title which was beta-suggested) and in the elation that some objective and un-biased stranger thinks I can write...

major spoilers for Heroes part 1&2, in the form of my slash ep tag )

I'm gonna go hide under the bed now.
