Dear Chocolaterie,
Greetings! I'm so excited! I hope you are, too, and that you have fun with this.

This got embarrassingly long. In my weak defense, I've got one fandom with a good hundred hours of content and a bunch of complicated, context-heavy relationships, and fandoms of a music video of to-be-named characters, and "ooh, neat" pairing ideas. In retrospect, this letter is the first time I've tried to organise my thoughts about The Last of Us, and, welp. I'm sorry/hope we mesh somewhere. If we somehow didn't match on said game, note that there's Major Spoilers for TLOU part 2 under the cut. If we did match somewhere else, know that I'm delighted to read your fic! I just haven't had the same hundreds of hours of game play worth of thinking about it under my belt...

BUT! Before you venture under the cut: If you signed up with one of these fandoms/pairings because you had An Idea, write it. Hit up my DNWs just in case? But WRITE IT. Have fun with it! If you're after ideas. um. I have a lot of feelings.

Concept ideas, from last year's letter: I've got a lightly rotating list from my dear creator/dear writer tags that you're welcome to check out. For a challenge like this, where the emphasis is a little more on 'short and sweet', I'm very here for, say, a sex/afterglow scene that showcases the characters, or something else utterly mundane to hang a vignette from (making a meal, sharpening a weapon, making something). I love Actual Drabbles (100 words! I will die on this hill! etc), 5 things (or as-many-or-as-few-as-you-like things) fics, basically you do not have to do a plot here, ever. Unless you want to. Feel free to grab a concept from another fandom/prompt here and apply it to whatever we matched on, too.

Okay, I think it's Done. These are all... Guidelines *Pirates of the Caribbean voice*. If you want to write (or art) A Thing for this pairing/relationship combo, go for it. Feel very free to hit up the mods if you have any questions or want to check something. Good luck! :D

Things I love in my sex scenes: laughter and affections; consensual and enthusiastic: power play, pain play, boundary play; worship and adoration.

ART: I flounder still some about what makes a useful art prompt for the Original Works area. I love vibrant colours, digital art, watercolours, um. Things I like to see! Characters being happy and content together, or excited/pleased about [a thing]. I love detailed backgrounds, but ha, that seems like a mean thing when the fic expectations start as low as 300, so don't fret about that.

DNWs: Hmm, Character death (unless it's UnDeadwood or otherwise canonical), excessive violence, characters getting their hopes up and then getting those hopes dashed (basically, if you could describe a character as 'crestfallen' I'm going to be unable to keep reading, unless I know it turns out all okay in the end, or that the character gets to process it properly. Yeah, I don't know why, either. I think it's a weird mutation of an embarrassment squick).

Some of the letters I've seen have been wildly intimidating in length and scope, holy shit), I'm very here for, say, a sex/afterglow scene that showcases the characters, or something else utterly mundane to hang a vignette from (making a meal, sharpening a weapon, making something). ART: This is the first time I've requested art specifically, so I'm floundering slightly on what makes a useful prompt. I love vibrant colours, digital art, watercolours, um. Things I like to see! Characters being happy and content together, or excited/pleased about [a thing]. I love detailed backgrounds, but ha, that seems like a mean thing when the fic expectations start as low as 300, so don't fret about that.

Yuletide was a slightly weird one for me this year. I was delighted with who I matched with, and wrote near-enough ten thousand words worth of scenes in mini-nano in November. I had the vast bulk of the material written, and then I stalled hard, from 1st December onwards, uploaded an incomplete draft, got quite reasonably pinged for it by the mods, and smashed out an actual frame-worked, sense-making fic (including beta and re-edited) in the 72 or so hours before the archive went live. M, I could not have done that without you, and your hand holding, and your betaing. Holy shit.

I...never want to write like that again. I want to be able to keep up my momentum from patchy ideas into finished work (this was totally one of those times where the original ordering of scenes got almost entirely turned on its head, for example. And it still all Worked). That said, I also produced probably the best things I've written to date, sooo. That's not nothing? I itch to go back and do one last editing smooth, but it's Out There now, and I should leave it the hell alone.

Is a glorious treat. It requires a fresh knowledge of a pretty obscure historical fantasy-ish book, and I'm so sad it's probably not going to get the respect it deserves because of that. It's a wonderful, warm piece and I love it so.
I'm kinda brain dead from tired, and it's hot, and I'm having trouble staying on task. Give me exciting things to think about while I'm on my lunchbreak? Help wake me up?

From [personal profile] helens78:
I have in my hands a list of ten characters, numbered 1-10. Ask me something about any two or three of these characters, and I'll write you 200-500 words about them.

Example questions:
- Who likes bottoming more, 4 or 10?
- Under what circumstances would 1 pay 5 for sex?
- What was 6's first date with 7 like?
- 2 has a kink for armbinders. How does 8 react?
- 3, 6, and 9 walk into a bar. How do they end up going home together, and what happens when they get there?

Or they can be totally gen questions, whatever floats your boat. If you can, reply to the DW post here (anyone know how to put that fancy bit at the bottom of cross-posts that says 'this was originally posted at DW, where there are X comments'?) because I can't see LJ at work.

I started keeping (rough) track of what books I was reading in December 2009, and based on that count (and acknowledging that there's almost certainly books I've forgotten to record) I've read 54 books this year. Clearly, the way to do 52 books in 52 weeks thing was to stop trying :P

I signed up for mini_nano on LJ this year, and with [personal profile] meghanc holding my hand and poking me and cheerleading me, I wrote 16,119 words in 30 days! That's the most I've written in... well, definitely this year, and definitely the most ever in a recorded time frame. I've got three-ish short stories, and a document with 9905 words in it that probably still has god-know-how-many words left to go. Holy shit.

Because I was saddened to find out about this community about 12 hours after sign ups closed last year, I hearby spread the word: [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo is taking sign ups until 31 October. Like Nanowrimo but surmountable!
One of those notes-to-self-in-public things:

- The [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon fic draft is due by the 15th. *cue deliberate, calm breathing* I can totally do this. Just write, and the rest will come. It always does.

- The book review for [livejournal.com profile] mynxii. This will be good in a challenging way...

- Then there's finishing the [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon before I go to Tasmania. This will be smooth sailing, mostly, because the draft will be there to work off.

- After that, I shall reward myself by going to Tasmania (\o/), and with the solid colour yarn I shall purchase from Yarnomat, I shall make a far better/prettier pair of toe-up Monkey socks than the start of one I frogged this afternoon. *nods determinedly, heads for bed*

Yes, I'm publicly posting word counts. They will make no sense to anyone, I just respond well to the 'people are watching me/I am publicly accountable' method of motivation. :P

Fic: "Placeholder 1 of 5"

Today's total: 525!

Dear Apocalypse writer,

Firstly, Apocalypse fic! Wheee! Just the idea of this pleases me mightily. Go for broke, say I. If you lean towards fluffy Gen fic, go for it, if you can manage the fluff! If you lean towards nihilist threesome smutfests, go for that. Whatever you write I’ll delight in it simply because it’s apocalypse fic, and for me.

That said, if you’re looking for pointers... )
I fail spectacularly well at actual fic prompt writing, but I've been feeling the lack of writing/ideas recently, so I present a writing meme gakked from [livejournal.com profile] ignipes:

Give me a prompt (fandom, pairing or character, random words or scenarios, etc.) and I will write one sentence of fic for the prompt.
