This is probably not going to mean anything to anyone who is not me, but I just figured out the long-tail cast on! \o/ (DW icon is intentionally ironic, okay?)
They're doing a review of aviation security in Australia. (Consulation Paper)
Section 6.1 of the above paper contains the question: "Should the list of prohibited items be amended to remove low risk items?" Here is the chance to be able to knit/crochet on flights within or entering Australia. Keep in mind that the Transport Security Administration (USA) allows knitting and crochet on flights (yes, there are caveats, but there's none of this blanket: No knitting, No crochet... "basically no craft" to quote Air New Zealand staff bullshit).
People on Ravelry have created a form letter and have contact details that you can get from here.
Submissions close on the 19th of September. At this stage, afaik, all letters will be dumped into a "XXX many submissions came from knitters..." line in the report, so a form letter is just fine -- feel free to correct me on that point if it'll make any sort of difference!
Right sock was cast on 12/12, expanded every other row to 26/26, which hasn't fit the shape of my foot all that well. 12 and 3 rows of pattern before the heel turn.
Delighted by the colours, don't notice the string texture at all now.
Yarn from America! Merino yarn from Sockpixie to be more precise.
There's so much of it! The pen is in there for scale. It weighs in at around 120 grams, and I've spent the best part of two hours gently winding it into balls I can use on public transport. I'm still not quite done!
Knitted last night, with the invaluable aids of this tutorial (seriously, the only sock tutorial I've found that does magic loop, toe up socks) and hand holding from M.
So this is my first serious attempt at knitting, taught by the very patient madradish Not half bad, except for the bit where I did this thing where I got frustrated at how tight the stitching was, pulled it apart and couldn't remember how to cast back on. *headdesk* And rather than doing something useful about it, like asking black_samvara before she went out for the night, I'm now trying to learn from online videos. Sometimes I don't make sense, even to myself.
In other, not surprising news, it's hot and I'm bored. Tell me something random, even if it's just that you're hot and bored too?
