Delighted by the colours, don't notice the string texture at all now.

Aren't they just? The heel ended up being right in the middle of the purple/blue transition. I tried to take photos of the luminous, luminous blue, but nothing came even close, alas.

Oh WOW! That's wonderful!! I can't wait to see what they look like finished. :)

I'm really happy with it! The needle-less cable was remarkably painless, too. Although I've still got holes on one side of my heel, which is frustrating, but pretty minor.

Also, is your icon from Rainbow Brite? I remember adoring that show as a kid.

It sure is! It's a sprite specifically. :)

I want to get some Noro so I can make this. I'm tempted to make my own self striping wool and use that instead though.

oooh, I love love love the colours! I definitely want to do some socks in the near future. How do you manage to knit something sock size on such a large round needle? I have been trying it with hats but have had to go back to four needles because I couldn't make it work.

I use the magic loop method and I love it. Specifically, I used this tutorial as my basic sock knitting pattern and ignored the second sock.

You actually need the length 80cm (or more if you can find it) to do the technique properly. I also did the cable without an extra needle, which pleases me no end. :D
