I'm on the uni library computers atm because I've come in to pick up my regalia for my graduation ceremony this evening. Whoot! Spent a frustrating time of it yesterday on the phone, trying to get to the right person who could tell me if I graduate with distinction. According to the explanations on my academic transcript, an award with distinction is given to the top 10% of students in a given course. I got BA average of 77%. I'm down for a pass and I want to know what that cut-off mark was!
The net connection at home has been rather hit-and-miss in terms of being able to dial-in and being able to actually stay on-line for a reasonable period. This isn't all that noteworthy usually, but Dad's developing a very rapid addiction to eBay so has started to listen when his friends talk about Broadband. He recently thrust a bunch of forms at me saying "apparently, this provider is good, fill these out for me?" I'm delighted to get broadband. I'd be even more delighted to get wireless broadband on my laptop. ::flutters eyelashes at flist:: Anyone know how it works, what I'll need etc?
My laptop currently has an internal 56k modem. Presumably I'm going to need to buy my own ADSL modem, plus some sort of wireless signaling thing (a hub?) Will I have to pay for my own broadband account or is it all via mum&dad's bill? Do my folks need to do anything when they install broadband onto the desktop that will aid me when I get my laptop hooked up? /pestering.
Also, I've been utterly entranced by the previews for Battlestar Galatica on channel 10. Apparently it's a remake. Having no knowledge of the original at all, are there fannish opinions out there? :)

Don't worry - there's plenty of fannish opinion out there.

(and I've been round to stickybeak)
What she got (as a package from iinet, for a really good price)
Was a router that is wireless enabled, and the broadband. Then all you need is a wireless card for your laptop and home PC (or just for the laptop and connect the PC by cable).
I know in our house all the computers are connected to adsl and it is all one bill, I don't think you can seperate them. The router will have several ports on it to fit a few computers, so there shouldn't be much difference when you add yours. Except that when you have the router set to wireless you have to have some extra security fectures so that people can't just drive by and scam your net.

By the way you probably weren't even born when the original Battlestar Galactica was on ..1978-80!!! Its probably good that you didnt see the original because the people that have seen it seem to be a bit disappointed in the changes.
Sorry to hijack this journal but are you even getting my emails and snail mail? .... K

Plenty of people in the US are talking about the new series (which I'm pretty sure is a different thing again to the miniseries we're about to see). Try

Avoid. It will suck the life from you and life is too damn short.
However, from a slashy POV it cain't be beat. Many and varied slash possibilities. Perhaps you'd enjoy it from that aspect. I refuse to suggest that you watch it, however. All I can say is: DON'T. Back way slow and make no sudden moves ...
Frankly, I'd sooner masturbate with steel wool than watch the bilge-tripe that is Battlestar Ponderosa. Again. And that goes double for Firefly.
In other matters: Congrats on your graduation! I'm sure it went brilliantly! You wildly brilliant little muffin!

Yowee! That's one of the more wince-worthy images to do with masturbation I've heard in a while, second only to the poor LJ soul who cut up some chillies and then forgot to wash her hands before she masturbated.
And I'm being a total sucker and watching anyway. I understand I have been dutifully warned. All responsibility is on my shoulders :)
