This time in Margaret River. Mum, Dad and I came down on Boxing Day. We have a house down here that they've been building since before I was born (will never be finished, but it's certainly livable, so that counts as finished in our book!). It's about 15 minutes out of Margaret, and this is our first major trek into Net-connected type civilisation since then. It was $4 a hour in Melbourne, $6 an hour here.

Most major news -- I've been writing! I've written maybe 3000 words of fic that I actually plan to post, and another 2000 of me just fooling around with stuff that I don't plan to post. (It's the 2000 that's particularly significant here, me writing, just for me? My god, it's been a while!).

The fic I plan to post was inspired in part by a live Ani D CD that a darling friend K sent me. It's been a shamefully long time since I a) got in contact with K, and b) listened to any Ani D, so it's fabulous to get both in one hit. ::waves to K, blows kisses:: The song "I know this bar..." (track 10 on the CD, if the memory serves) got me in the right, quiet frame of mind to start playing with one of those ideas that has been turning around in my head for a l-o-n-g time, one of the first ideas I got for a fanfic story after learning the details of the Stargate fandom, and character histories and stuff.

The laptop helps hugely in all this of course. Before where I would wake up and be playing pleasantly but uselessly with the ideas only in my head, I can now boot up the laptop while still in bed and type them out. And, my god, does it work!

And, potentially bizarre question -- I've been writing using Rich Text (the XP equivalent of WordPad) because the software I pirated off a mate won't let me register it. He's offered older software that doesn't meed registering which I'll take him up on when I get back to Perth, but does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the dotted line page marker you get in Word?

Crap, my hour's nearly up, and I'm not paying $3 for another half hour! K, I'll email you soon, and the thing that was an Xmas pressie and with the magic of time has become some other present? It's coming soon, promise!
