Tree mourning

As most people who have been to my house will know, I live on a big block. There's a pond that my folks dug way back, and after giving up keeping it filled all year round, it usually fills in winter and dries up in summer.

It's this shady, pretty spot that I haven't appreciated anywhere near as much as I should have.
Most of that shade comes from a tree next door, a rather spectacular gum that our neighbours are cutting down tomorrow. It's going to change the space radically, because while we have the offspring of that tree around the pond on our side, they're nowhere near big enough to fill the gap. Mum's coming home early this evening, and she's promised to take photos because I won't be home until at least 8pm.
