Have you ever encountered the manga "Yokohama Kaidashi KikÅ"? It is a exceptionally beautiful tale spanning some 12 years or so in a world where the sea levels have risen and human populations are on the wane. It tells the passage of time (mostly) through the eyes of a self-aware robot who runs a cafe out on the end of no-where.
