I was resolutely plugging away at my palm cards for a group presentation when my country-conservative friend rings up. We talk for a bit, me checking my watch. Then he says:
"The West Australian always struck me as being seriously pro-Labor."
And...and then my head exploded. Admittedly, we were arguing about the industrial relations act going through atm. He's a big anti-unionist and I was explaining what I thought the laws would mean (that if you refused to take a job because it didn't include meal breaks or overtime pay, that you'd loose 18% of your dole payment for six months) He disputed this (said if you refused a job that did include those things, then you were penalised [anyone more knowledgeable than the both of us able to clear that up?]}
I said I was going off what the West Australian said, and he came back with the above line. He's been known to say some bloody stupid things in the past when he's felt his argument slipping, but that one just about takes the cake.
And I've just wasted about 10 minutes blogging this, but I just felt needed to put it somewhere else so I could get on with my assignment without thinking: "WTF?!" every two seconds.

The West seen as PRO-Labor?
Not the most savagely pro-Liberal, anti-Labor paper in the country?
Sheesh - what does he think of the Oz?
Or on the other side - The Age? SMH?

And I don't think he reads the Australian or possibly even knows about The Age etc. Without actually trying, he's convinced me that working or living in the country is Not For Me...
