A quick brain-pick of my flist

I have the option of a second hand laptop. Pentium 3, Windows 2000 for $790. Anyone out there know if this is something to be embraced/run from?

I also have the option of a 2nd hand Pentium 2 with Windows 98 for $500. Or brand new from Officeworks, $1300 with a whole lot of extras that I don't care about. It's an option because there's still a certain squeamishness buying second hand. ::looks around hopefully:: anyone got any advice?

Plus, the worst of the cold seems to be blowing over, but I'm developing an erratic but excruicsating pain in my right hear which suggests a possible middle ear infection which is scary, scary. /hypochondria.

Other than that, having been doing little but enjoying every minute :)

There is a big of a risk buying second hand laptops. Laptops have a shorter shelf life than a standard computer (which, according to the ATO effective depreciation life is 5 years, laptops is about three years). I don't know if this helps or not.

What brand of laptop is it? The best ones are Toshiba, Acer, Packard Bell - apparently the brand makes a LOT of difference with laptops.

Thanks so much for the FB, it's quite fabulous to get good FB a while after you post the story. It's almost like the fic is still alive out there. That make any sense?
