I spent a lovely night with mynxii and kae_dash. Watched Phantom of the Opera at last, and had a mocha and french toast for breakfast in the city. Yum. However, staying at someone else's house means there's no music in the morning, and no space to dance and now my body's rather savagely: "Hi! Forgotten something?" and I'm randomly tapping my feet and counting the hours. *twitch*

Yesterday I was sitting reading under a tree (uni has the remains of a pine plantation), waiting for my shift to start. It wasn't until I got to work and had sat down in my boss's chair that I realised I'd also been sitting (presumably) on tree roots that were seeping sap. I had a sticky mess on the arse of my jeans and all over my boss's chair*. I tried sponging it off with water and a little of the meths we keep in the cupboard, to not much avail. The boss is away for a good week, so any tips on getting the damn stuff off?

*However, I did smell of warm pine, which is something I associate with year 9 woodwork, which are highly pleasant memories, so that's something.

pine sap is what is made into gum turpentine. sound familiar?
mineral turpentine will (should?) dissolve it.
however, it is also likely to dissolve everything else around it :/
don't let it dry however ... then it's permanent :(

dissolve everything else around it Hmm, that does not sound so safe for a fabric and foam chair. I had no idea pine sap and turps were so related (and by 'dry' do you mean the turps or the sap?)

the pine sap :/
as the solvents evaporate from the goo, the stuff left behind polymerises and becomes hard.
Turps on its own is 99% solvent.

A bit of googling turned up: ice (freeze it, then break it off), rubbing alcohol, 'mineral spirits' - nfi what this is, bloody americans. Assume turps? :)

rubbing alcohol == ethanol, denatured of course.
mineral spirits is mineral turpentine, yes.
