I've just read Quercus's Esprit de Corps and...I'm writing a Jack POV atm, and I'm not sure I can do it anymore, or I'm going to have to re-write a lot of it. because Jack was so brilliantly done by Quercus, so rounded, so much a person, so smart, properly smart, as he would really be in the show, people-smart, that I've got Jack wrong, dumber than he would be really. Plus, this is the first I've ever really felt that freeze up of "my god. I can't write another word. She's said it all! Nothing ese to say" also, "I couldn't come close to that."
It was so wonderfully written, we're talking so true-to-life characters, that when it turned slashy at the end it almost felt wrong. Still beautifully written, crafted, but even though I'm a devout slasher, just this once it didn't fit. ::wanders away, dazed::
