At the end of November I quietly challenged myself to write a minimum of 300 words a day in December of...whatever came to mind just as long as it was some sort of fiction/creative work. I did that, with regular double-ups of 600 words to take into account nights away from home or the laptop.
That was a minimum of 9,300 words over the month, aiming for 10,000. On 31 December, my final word count for the month is 12,695. It doesn't feel like that much because I got to watch it grow each night, but still. yay.
I'm deeply indebted to the archives of
15minuteficlets which gave me one-word prompts to structure things around, even if I was writing to the word count, rather than a time. Still, I've ended up with just over 30 pages of Supernatural ficlets, and moments in time. I've learned little tidbits about Dean and Sam and all of them, but it's not in the least cohesive. As it was, December was a series of nightly one or two shots, which was great for keeping up the word counts, but overall left me itching for something more substantial.
So, I know I can produce 10,000 words a month. The challenge for January is to continue the output, but make it into some form of coherent whole, or many coherent pieces/short stories, the latter being far more likely than the former, considering my complete lack of experience in plotting. Finding ideas that can sustain me over a few nights and being able to keep the word counts straight in my head is going to require some thought.
