Alternative to maternity leave

It only seems applicable to a narrow band of workers at the moment, but as a "breaking down the divide between the domestic and the workplace" concept, I really like it.

It has some interesting pros and cons linked to it and while the discussion is quite brief it is a very interesting read.

I really like it as a compromise as well, and think it's amazing that firms in the US are actually doing it. I'd really like to see it in Australia as well. I have to say, it'll only work in a "younger" workplace, IMO, and only in certain fields as well, totally. My mother for example, is turning 60 this year, and was a legal secretary for part of her life. She wouldn't think bringing a baby into the office would be appropriate, but I actually grew up in an office (and yes, like the children in this story, I had my own office, and used to bind my own storybooks and things). However this was only after I Started school. And I was excruciatingly well behaved. And had a series of nannies, so wasn't in the office all the time.

I think it's a great idea. I'd promote it.

As much as the article is slanted to push this idea as a good one, I am glad that it recognised the point that it is not appropriate everywhere, making note of some significant cons.

As an alternative, I agree, it is good to see people and businesses thinking outside their regularly shaped cuboid.
