I have this feeling that renovation posts should be all about: "Look how much prettier we made this!" This is not that sort of renovation post.

Before: the single tile removed was
black_samvara's dad's doing as the most recent attempt at stopping the water leaking into my bedroom wall (we discovered this when I renovated my bedroom -- see: renovations tag for *that* adventure...). The pirate curtain and the filler behind it are our earlier attempts.
I think the white tiles were the old owner's attempt to a) prettify the shower, and b) cover up the fact that the shower was shot to hell.

During: having chiseled out the tiles, I scraped off as much of the remaining tile glue as I could.
See that dark line on the right back side? That's where the water was leaking straight through the white tiles, past the old shriveled filler that had been put in previously, and straight into my bedroom wall.

After:
black_samvara's help and two and a half tubes of filler later, the shower is as filled and sealed as we can make it.
Two showers later, and the struts in my wall are still dry to the touch *crosses fingers*
