I'm about to start my much rejoiced over (and not just by me, my folks like it too!) 10 hour a week job, all teacher-contact weeks of 2005 (22 weeks work). I'm also doing four units a semester. I explained this to one of my tutors, and she suggested that this was a pretty heavy unit and maybe I should defer one unit a semester and come back for another semester in 2006 (in which I would do the two deferred units.)
I'm torn over this. On one hand, the only unit I can really let go is the archives one, which requires you to do around 40 hours on site at an archive, something that is insanely difficult when you have to go to work for two hours in the middle of the day. Plus, I get to focus on my other three units and do a better job of those.
On the other hand, those two outstanding units might become a millstone around my neck. Apparently, the odds of getting a job in archives and records management before you even graduate are rather high. Going back to do those could be a hell of a drag. I'm not even sure that the unit I would be deferring second semester is available in first semester timetables. I need way more info on this, I think. I've got until Friday, maybe, to make a decision. Still, thoughts have been laid down on paper (the computer screen?) that's got to help somehow.
