Election weeping. Angst and misery warning.

My mood in general is not exactly depressed, just sort of emotional: I feel a bit like I'm near tears. Not directly related to the election, but everything impacts. This was my first election. I organised and helped letterbox my suburb with Green leaflets and spent almost all of the actual day handing out How-To-Votes. I voted Greens above the line in the Senate, broke with the recommendations for the Lower House and put One Nation 7, Christian Democrats 8. I was moaning about the results and dad replied something like "well, you can sleep at night knowing you did the best you could." I still reserve the right to mope and grieve and will get angry later, when the impacts are felt.

I went to Wasteland yesterday, my first con, and it was great (adds grain of salt because I have nothing to compare it to). Stephen was saying that Libs alone-majority would be better because you had the moderation of the backbenchers, (Greens getting the seat would be best. We didn't know the result then) Family First getting the seat was the worst case senario. We have a worst case senario. He was also saying that if you buy (X-rated, and possibly even R) porn, buy it now, before its banned. There was also talk of internet filters to "prevent pornography" etc. In that case, Slash is screwed. I reserve the right to be melodramatic, too.

In better news, went to Sarren's b'day, despite being tired from the con, and had a quietly fabulous time. While I was driving home and lying in bed before sleep I got to wondering: the movie title (And Your Mother Too), how did they come up with that? Did they fine tooth-comb the script, looking for and isolating good lines?

I hear you, I really do. I'm actually quite fearful of the repercussions of this election. The senate situation has me worried the most... God, what were people thinking?

It's not all that comforting really, is it? That massive amounts of money and an organised propaganda compaign can sway people so much. And that handing out little pieces of recycled paper can be so meaningless? People? Stop being stupid. Stop thinking that something on tv, or something mailed to you on glossy paper is as true as it is pretty. I honestly believe that if most of the Australian public bothered to look past the government's polished scare tactics they wouldn't be back in power.

I mean, some ppl have looked past, and alligned themselves with the right anyway. I get that SOME people will think that way. However, I like to think that it's ignorance rather than nastiness that have so many Australians voting that way.

The bright side is that the policy on porn is so insane that surely *surely* it won't go through. Though, you know, surely *surely* people knew better than to vote for the Libs.
