I rocked up to Reading Cinemas for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory only to discover it's next weekend. Facepalmed, went back home. At least there was a nice stack of Serenity brochures, right at the beginning of the queue of ticket markers; good to see.

So, bringing my scheduled weekend events forward and am now contemplating the selection critera for the library clerk job at my local library (I. Wants. This. Job!) I'm pretty okay for most of them (experience with PCs and office equipment, customer service, and current library practices) but how does one prove they have 'team environment' experience and 'good general knowledge'? Any tips, peoples?

Team Environment: Have you ever worked with other people to accomplish a particular goal? If yes, find an example of when you worked with the group of people, what your role was, how it effected the overall outcome and what extra things you did which helped the group accomplish the task. You can include any voluntary work as well. If you have been a part of a committee or project, that is also good. Think outside the sqaure.

Good general knowledge: Awareness of current world and social issues. Do you watch the news? If you do not know something, are you able to utilise other resources to find out that information? This question is also about your ability to think laterally, so in your example, you should include something that showcases this ability.

I hope that helps. If you need clarification or more info, send me an email.

This is great, thanks!

Question: my best example of team work was during elections doing political campaigning for the Greens: organising letter box dumping, handing out how-to-vote cards etc. I'm defintely not referring to the Greens by name, but it is wise to have political stuff in there at all?

If this is the strongest example you have, then use it. However, I'd suggest that you say that you helped out in the elections in general and not just for a particular party.

I would however try and come up with other more mundane, every day work examples because if you get to the interview stage, they will ask questions from the selection criteria. I'm also suggesting this because they'll want to see that you apply this team work skills in every day life.
