How I love you so.
I have the season 3 finale of Spooks, have seeded (is there a Internet Truckin' netiquette for how long you seed?) and I'd also just like to say a word of joy about not using a connection to its full capacity: my god, it's so fast. *is all awed like a broadband newbie awed thing*

Also, obsessive-fanish Spooks question -- has anyone noticed when Adam starts wearing his wedding ring? I have the first two eps of season 3, and he's as clearly not wearing it in those as he is wearing it in the finale. So, when did it appear?

*goes off to be traumatised by the finale all over again*

ETA: 'netiquette' is in LJ's spell checker. I'm the only one who thinks this is cool, aren't I?
ETA2: and yet, 'LJ' is not. *blink* go figure.

To expand upon what [livejournal.com profile] bouy_wonder said. Seed as long as you're willing to do so, but at least until you have a 1:1 upload/download ratio. Obviously, longer is better, but the absolute minimum should be until you've uploaded as much as you've downloaded.

Damnit, self, spelling. SPELLING. Sorry. You know what I mean, obviously, but way to screw up, me.

From: [identity profile] maharetr.livejournal.com

Meh, I do it all the time :)

And the whole seed 1:1 thing is totally logical and fair but having my laptop on for another non-stop three days is all "eep"
plus I'm sneakily doing it around times I know dad's on the desktop computer, pausing it when he's online and stuff, because he's not quite realising it's me that's making things scream-worthy slow...

From: [identity profile] vegetariansushi.livejournal.com

Oh! But! If you reboot and open the same torrent again, since it's already downloaded, it will just start seeding automatically. So you don't have to leave it on constantly, really.

Also, if it's making things that slow, you should be able to adjust the rate that you're up/downloading at -- there should be some sort of throttle or gauge or something. What client are you using?

From: [identity profile] maharetr.livejournal.com

BitTorrent (from memory. At uni computers again). And I found a thing that says limit download, limit upload thing, and how they should be pretty close together numbers wise, but my average download speed has been 4kB over a bah-zillion hours (seriously, it stopped counting at 99:99:99...) and 5kB upload. Can it get much slower? :)

From: [identity profile] vegetariansushi.livejournal.com

BitTorrent is the -- hm. The whole thing is called BitTorrent, but you have a client to download things, then -- I use BitTornado, but I know that there's-- Azureus, maybe? And a bunch of others. It's not a big deal.

If it's that slow and still stalling, I have no idea.

Actually -- are you getting a yellow light, or a green light? There's a little status light, and if that's not green, things are not going nearly as fast as they should be, and settings should be tweaked.

From: [identity profile] maharetr.livejournal.com

Me thinks I have, like, BitTorrent (1.1) the First Eva, because I don't have green or red or yellow lights. :)

Dummy question: I'm downloading from a torrent I got from BitTorrent, which is the entire season 3 of Spooks and I'm selecting eps from it as the plot bunnies demand whim strikes. If I was to switch to a better client, can I still download from that torrent?

And it's not so much that the client is stalling, it's everything around it that's going, "ow, that hurts, stop it" slow. If I hadn't made that clear before now :)

From: [identity profile] vegetariansushi.livejournal.com

Changing clients will not effect your ability to download (or finish downloading) a given torrent.

I really, really love BitTornado, previously 'Shadow's Experimental'. And there will be lights and other things to monitor and make sure that things are going the way that they should.

Also, i started writing you email the other night and then passed out, and I should finish it.

From: [identity profile] maharetr.livejournal.com

Yes, yes finish email :D

Emails will be coming from this end, they will I promise, just not quite yet because obeying the uni rules has meant I've got extensions til Friday for assignments I'm just starting (shhh, there are things tutors don't need to know. It's all for the best) So, soon.

Hey, no pressure, remember? Anyhow, I keep getting distracted by this crazy BSG fic that's percolating in my brain, so...

From: [identity profile] maharetr.livejournal.com

Yay, crazy BSG fic! I'm behind on my BSG, so can't actually help with the mythology or character stuff, but I can offer the stuff you don't need right now, like grammar and spelling and tight sentence structure. (Seriously, one of my creative writing assignments came back with said compliment :D). Really, I just want an excuse to read it, you know this, yes? But the offer stands.

From: [identity profile] vegetariansushi.livejournal.com

Whee! You're so nice to me.

Honestly, I'm not even sure that this is so much that I need help as it is that I need reassurance, and I would be more than happy to send stuff to you to read, if you're interested. That said, it's going to have spoilers for some major S2 plot stuff, though only through, like, 2x04.

From: [identity profile] maharetr.livejournal.com

Technically, I've seen the two-parter (Home?), but I really only remember up to The Farm which was 2x05.

And reassurance I can do in spades :D
