Can anyone give me an average price for a good flat-bed scanner and a new computer? With references (URLs)? *whimper*

I'd promised my tutor my veryveryvery late assignment was going to be in on Friday. It's Monday and I'm nearly done. I was typing frantically this morning (while mum swore at the bathroom fan switch she's trying to replace it which has resulted in much hilarity and swearing and almost-success) so I could get to work at 12.

I turn up to work a couple of minutes late, eating busily. Turns out one of the staff couldn't make it in, so my boss had been trying to call me to change my hours till later. She was apologetic, and I'll be working 3-5 this afternoon instead of 12-2. I still have some assignment to do, and I've been plugging away at that, but I've hit the budget/schedule part, and I sort of have a schedule, and I'll be able to bullshit my way through the rest. But my hands hurt (fucking tendons) and I've got two assignments to go and I want this to be over already, all of it. /whine.

By Friday this will all be over. (clings to the idea)

Woohoo! *snatches up the HP*

Yup, monitor, the whole works.
Thank you so much :D

Hypothetical. Entirely for assignment purposes (all work will be repaid in pancakes. No money = no corruption or plaiurising or anything. *nods firmly*) :D

(Computer will be used to design a database, and for scanning of many documents into PDFs, then get absorbed into the office pool thing as a general terminal.)

Case: $69.30
Motherboard: $100.10
Processor: $118.30
Memory: $77.90
Keyboard: $19.10
Mouse: $13.60
HDD: $78.90
CD: $54.40
Monitor: $178.90
---------------------------
Total: $710.50

I'm going to disagree with [livejournal.com profile] bouy_wonder - while you might be able to put together a really basic box for $400, I don't think you could include a monitor with that and it sure as hell wouldn't be any PC I'd want to use. :)

Oh, the love! :D
Work must be really boring ;)

*dashes off to print assignment*
Done! Done! Done! thank you!

Back in the dark ages (ie. when I had long hair, no job and no enthusiasm for my uni work) I used to build computers for a bit of $$ on the side. It's still kinda second nature, but every time I touch it I'm glad I never tried to make a real business out of it. :)

I agree now my estimate was off (cause I forgot to include the price of moniter). I had forgotten how expensive they were.

And once you've got one, then you start thinking about how much cooler it would be if you had two. Suddenly you have two. Then you see bigger ones. And they're not THAT much more expensive than the little ones, and maybe you could sell the little ones to offset the cost of the big ones...

...repeat for a couple of years, and suddenly you have an LCD as your secondary monitor solely because your primary CRT is too friggin' heavy to lift.

Ahh well. As [livejournal.com profile] wobowikkles says, size IS important. :)

hehehehe

I want a 19' LCD so badly. I also want a video card that could cope with a 19' LCD. And a new hard drive! and and (the list goes one)

You want it cheap the best way to do it is find some one who can build it from scratch.

If you do that you could get a nice solid system for under $400. But it really boils down to what you want to do with it. If it's just for word processing and net stuff you could get it as cheap as about $300.

It's just me being lazy, really. I need a budget for my assignment and to make it look like the project I've written about will Cost Things, I'm saying they need to buy a scanner and a computer :D

Tis, however, comforting to know I could get a computer that cheap if I needed one :)

lol

I assumed you were buying one for your self. Oh well just reference some Harvey Norman ad.

Now I've done some of your work, you can do some of my study ;)

Lemme know if your hands need fixing, n if/when you want to meet up for said repairwork. I'm always happy to help fix friends *glaremutters at the everbroken aki*

I think I've worked out it is for an assignment, but if you want one I think I have a working scanner I could give you. (It was given to me from someone else who had brought a new one and I never got round to plugging it in)
