Wow. I was just about to start typing, then I realised it was raining and had to go outside a get a little wet. I'm feeling slightly awed.
I had a really satisfying new year's eve: I got up early (read: before 8am) and Did Things like dishes and clothes washing and went shopping for salad and meat things and generally felt competent.
I spent new year's eve at
amarillion and
prk's house with a bunch of people I knew really well (aka
mynxii and
ascetic_hedony and
wobowikkles) and people I'm getting to know. Seemingly, you're a friend if I can rattle of your LJ name without checking :P. I brought a salad and lamb chops which were cooked to perfection by prk *raises her glass* and there was all sorts of ice cream and cheese cake deliciousness for dessert. Managed to spend most of the evening cuddled up and talking with
wobowikkles, along with
mynxii and
ascetic_hedony. There have to be better ways to spend new year's, but they're not coming to mind. ;)
At midnight-ish we that remained went around the circle asking about firsts and proudests and sexiests. My list of firsts was hell-long, now that I have time to sit down and think it through.
In roughly chronological order:
First year of the Graduate Diploma (which I initially thought would be my only year...)
First proper, technically-tax-paying job (I got all $72 back ;))
First proper convention (one of three!) (Swancon. Technically, the one day of Wastelands (2004) was my first con but for me it was such a non-event compared to Swancon I'm choosing to be selective)
First "best birthday party eva!" feeling for my 21st. (Thanks guys!)
First interstate convention (Continuum. The whole thing is my proudest and sexiest moment, because it was me independently flying across the country under my own steam and [almost] all my own earned money [see: first job :D] Sexiest because the maskobalo was fabulous)
First time marching in the Pride Parade.
First of two times in a nun's habit.
First kiss.
First time on a convention panel.
First proper, independent-of-parents New Year's Eve. (hey, when I say "I was in social stasis for years" I mean it! :P)
Happy New Year's, guys. May your 2006 be better or even *more* better than 2005 :D And I'd like to steal some particularly beautiful words from Neil Gaiman (which he in turn stole from his 2002 self, hence the dates):
May your 2002 be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in 2002, you surprise yourself.
