The Bill to remove the Health Minister's veto on abortion drugs has been passed in the House of Representatives. No word on numbers that I can find yet, but both proposed amendments were voted down, and the Bill passed unchanged.

According to yesterday's West: (ammendments named after the ppl who put them forward, I guess)

The Kelly amendment: Would make the Minister's actions on RU-486 answerable to Parliament, effectively giving it the final say on the drug and the ability to overrule the minister's decision.

The Laming amendment: Would remove the Minister from the process and give Parliament the power to overturn the TGA's recommendation on RU-486 or any controversial drug that might be approved.

Basically, the ammendments were attempts to keep as much power as they could with the parliament, given the situation.
