Firstly, check out the amazing things people wrote for me! Three fics, all for me! Whee!

That'll Teach the Landlord for Saying, "All Utilities Included" (A Softer World) This is an amazing piece -- the comic as prose in all its amazing, dense, breathtaking glory.

A Day in the Life of Penny Chadwick (Blue Crush) Penny is such a teenager here. I'm so charmed, and yay for all her older 'sisters' :D

Maybe Death's an Adventure, But Who Wants to Wait? (A Softer World) A wild romp through a whole bunch of strips, including one of my new favs.

Other Yuletide works I adore:
these fragments I have shored against my ruins (Bourne Trilogy). I love Nicky, partly because she's also Julia Stiles -- but this fic takes her beyond being Julia Stiles and into being a fully rounded person, flaws and fabulous parts all at once.

How to Hatch Your Dragon (How to train your dragon). This is adorable, and makes me all mushy.

Gardens are not made by singing (Law & Order: SVU) I know nothing about the show, or the characters other than they're police officers, but this is still uttterly charming and delightful, and made me laugh.

Like a fairytale with combat boots (The Losers movie) The one where Jensen plays Sleeping Beauty, Pooch bakes, and everyone totally doesn't panic. This is a fabulous outsider POV (Jensen's family! His niece! His sister!), which should be tagged 'women being awesome' for all their complex relationships and feelings for each other. Also, team-as-family, and the perfect touch of hurt/comfort <3.

One phoenix after another (Nikita) This is achingly wonderful -- perfect Michael voice, and motivations and, oh, both of them.

This kid I once knew (Calvin & Hobbes)
Damnit. This is wonderful and made me tear up happily several times. Grown-up Suzie, you're so awesome. <3

Dream's End (Fairy Tales & Related Fandoms) Happily ever after isn’t a duty one can shirk, after all. We must set an example. This is a look at what comes after the wedding, and those 'blessed' by rescue from curses... Wonderful, wonderful voice here.

experimental procedure (Alliance-Union - C. J. Cherryh) You probably need to have read Cyteen and/or Regenesis to get the full level of awesome that is this fic, but if you have -- this is amazing, amazing Ari voice, and brilliantly controlled and crafted use of canon. Wow.

Machinarium, by Amanita Designs

I stumbled across this game while searching Google images for pictures of steampunk at work. I clicked out of curiosity because the picture was gorgeous, and realised that not only were there more images, but that it was a game. When I got home, I played the demo, wrestled with my better judgment, and coughed up the $20 for the rest of it.

I'm so glad I did. It's a 2D, point-and-click game. You know Shaun Tan's novels? How everything is otherworldly and mindblowingly detailed, and you (well, I) just want to reach in and touch? This is like playing in one of Shaun Tan's novels, for hours.

You control a little robot who stores things in his belly, and who is wandering around an intricate castle-type-city, helping creatures and fellow small robots in need by solving puzzles (mini-in-game-games and much larger 'collecting item X to put with Y to go off and do Z' style puzzles) and trying to stay out of the way of the big bully police robots.

The art, the sound effects and the music delights me. I'm not usually one for this style of lateral thinking, but it's excellently organised: there's a hint per level, if you want it, and for the few times I was deeply stuck, there is a locked walkthrough book that you access by playing an arcade style game, revealing sketches of how to solve the level, one page at a time. <3!
