Last night was so totally what I needed: [livejournal.com profile] cricketk, [livejournal.com profile] special_trille and [livejournal.com profile] sarren, there was yummy leek&potato soup with heavenly bread, there was Battlestar Galactica and oh! the pain and the squee!

[They're preparing to mercy-kill one of the Kobol crew. There's talk of overdosing him with morphine]

Audience: But other people might need that! Just shoot him, you fools!
Tyrol: [injecting guy with morphine] Hey, buddy. Rescue crew's here, you're going home.
Me: [not caring about the waste of morphine anymore] sniffle. Gahh...

And there was the lovely scene between Dee and Billy. He, clearly not knowing his way around guns, tries to carry it in his trousers.
Dee: Uh, you might want to put the safety on. *loves*

There were also songvids and Atlantis pretties. Speaking of songvids, I've been Googling the Dr Who vid with absolutely no success, [livejournal.com profile] cricketk? Help? :)

Awoke this morning to find a VHS copy of Black Books Season 1. Much happiness ensued. After observing [livejournal.com profile] wobowikkles perform obscene acts with pears, cinamon, sugar and a bit of hot water I attempted a similar feat and ended up with some pretty reasonable stewed pears for brunch and Black Books to watch. Life is good :)

Yay! If you're at all interested, I'll totally burn copies. I was thinking about putting up a list of some of the DVDs that I have and offering to burn those for people as well, so this would be right the same way.

Would uploading them to my webspace or postalmailing them to you be better for you?

(Again: I am looking at SGA for you people! There is apparently always room for more fandoms.)

Postmailing would be easier on my hardrive, if it's not too rough on your wallet.

Also, do you know much/anything about Starbuck's backstory? Just came across this and am all curious now.

From: [identity profile] vegetariansushi.livejournal.com

Mailing's not too dear, just slower, as I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to the post office. Will do, though. Do you want BSG, as well? Actually, I might copy it and send it to you to distribute to a few people. Because I am PIMPTASTIC. *cough*

That thing that you linked about her backstory is about the -- meh. It's poorly phrased at the absolute best. When she speaks to Leoben early on in the series, it's implied that her mother was largely absent and that he considers her to be more or less an orphan. I suspect that this is not because her mother is dead, but more because of some abuse or neglect. Can't remember the specifics of the conversation and mean to rewatch the episode asap, so I may have more 'insight' on that tomorrow.

We found out in 2x02 that her father was a classical pianist, so that's that. The jacket that she puts on in her apartment was his as well. (also, are you guys listening to the podcasts? Because Katee Sachoff and-- and the guy who plays Helo went into that set and did all the paintings themselves, and I thought that it was neat.)

She was involved with Apollo's younger brother Zak - she was a year (two?) older than he, and was a flight instructor during his last year at the academy. They were together, she passed him when she shouldn't have. They got engaged, and then he died. She didn't meet Adama until after Zak was dead, but he took a shine to her, apparently, and sort of took her under his wing a bit.

I believe that's all canon - I'm fairly anal about listening to the podcasts and that sort of thing, but stupidly didn't save the ones from S1, so don't have references for a lot of my memories. Can't recall them saying anything else about her past, though.

I found the site while looking for BSG transcripts. There are ep reviews too, and I'm using the reviewer's they're/their mistakes as an excuse to sneer mercilessly. (He/She [I'm thinking he] didn't like the Zack/Kara ep. I was not impressed)

And I utterly loved Starbuck's place (do we have any ideas what was written on the wall?). She seemed to take quite some comfort from wearing her dad's jacket, too.

I will be honest, and admit that I teared up a bit at the Starbuck/Helo scenes. I love Starbuck beyond the telling of it, because first off she's this amazing and rounded character, and second, she's one of the female characters in anything that I feel like I can sort of relate to, you know?

I'm not sure what was written on the wall, sadly. I'm trying to find a better copy of the episode so that I can figure it out.

Also, how could you not like the Kara/Zack episode? Stupid reviewer.

I'm yet to come across a woman in BSG that I didn't like (or, in the case of 6, wasn't facinated by at the very least). There was discussion of this last night: how people either *love* Starbuck or they *hate* her, and how Cally is the one that all the other characters want to protect, while she's just quietly and competently getting the job done :) And Roslin is awesome. I was raving to people at the beginning of the series: "The female secretary of education is now the President, only good can come of it!"

You know, I sort of like 6, in a twisted kind of way. But you're right - I really do like all of them. I posted a major squeefest about Cally and Starbuck the other day - is it wrong that I sort of want fic about them?

And yeah, Cally with Tyrol, and how she had to sort of freak out on him? WEEP.

From: [identity profile] maharetr.livejournal.com

Major squeefest? I think I completely missed it *is all interested, tho*

And my folks are home, so I really should be helping with tea etc, and generally pretending that my day was productive :D

*snuggles you*

Squeefest was in [livejournal.com profile] crumblingwalls, not here. Not terribly interesting, though, mostly me going 'OMGLOVE'.

Go act productive, love. I've just realised that it's past six, so I'm for bed, as I've an appointment with the GP at ten thirty. Whups.

Okay, so I was looking through my screencaps today and figured out part of what's on the wall -- it seems to be poetry. HEART.

The end bit is:

...every delicate sip
i drink away the night
stroking my hair to
the beat of his heart
watching a boy turn
into a
man

From: [identity profile] vegetariansushi.livejournal.com

I'm going to try and puzzle out the rest of it next time that I rewatch, but at the moment, I'm just all gleefilled wtih what I have. Especially as it was actually Katee Sachoff who decorated the apartment with the paints and all that. And, you know, HEART!!
