So I carry my laptop from the kitchen table back to my desk. There's my wonderful, wonderful wireless adapter thingy sticking out the side as per usual, it's just that when I go to set the laptop back on my desk, I bump the adapter against the wall. When I turn the laptop on, there's no comforting flicker of blue light from said object, and when I reboot everything my laptop tells me: "well, there's *something* in my USB port, but I've suddenly completely forgotten what it is." I suspect I've bumped my laptop internet connection into oblivion. Needless to say I've crept into the study and I'm typing this on the desktop. Which doesn't have Trillian or my music and is Dad's domain.

*sneaks back to retry*

Wahh! [livejournal.com profile] buoy_wonder? [livejournal.com profile] juffles? Help?

Still, finally able to use [livejournal.com profile] cricketk's icon to full effect; there are plus sides to everything. *g*

Sounds like it got pwned!

Can have a look at it... eventually? Busy with uni prep at the moment. I suggest bugging [livejournal.com profile] juffles for help.

Piece of wisdom I picked up during my first enrolment: "If you can survive the enrolment process, you can survive the degree!" So far, it's held up :)

Waaaah!

I don't suppose your laptop has an ethernet port so you could at least use it while tethered to your router by a long cable?

*hugs his wireless iBook*

It certainly seems to, but I have no idea how to tell the laptop "hi, this cable that connects you to the router? Send data and internety-ness through it please?" Any tips? *g*

The default settings for most ethernet cards are "Go search the network for things that will tell me what to do," otherwise known as DHCP. Try just plugging the bugger in and see what happens. :)

Bring it with you if you're coming past tomorrow, and I'll have a looksie when I get back from paddling.

Hee! I can certainly bring the adapter plus software CD and glossy (useless) booklet thing for your looksie pleasure :) Thank you!

Bringing the lappy would be a good idea as well, just for clarity's sake. :)

If not, can probably try it in AH's lappy.

I'm public transporting it to your place tomorrow, so I'd like to avoid having to lug it back and forth if I can :)

*flutters eyelashes at AH* *G*

I have no problems with this in theory.

Though there was something about my laptop being ancient and not appropriately ported for the wireless.

Juffy?
