You might want to put that under a cut (just a suggestion don't hate me)
I totally agree with your point, in ANY other fandon - except in Dr Who, gay characters are actually so common that it'd be hard NOT to kill one off occasionally.
When Dragonfly and I watched it and it was revealed she was gay, Dragonfly was like 'oh wow' and I said, 'you're kidding - I would have bet money on it.
Hee! I have sometimes sat in cinemas and boggled at just how much the trailers give away. The trailer for The Island gave away what I suspect was about 2/3 of the movie in one fell swoop, and I was all "oh, seen it now, thanks!"
I am spoiler phobic - knowing what's going to happen takes away much of the joy of watching something I love. This gives away the ending of a show that hasn't aired in Australia yet.
Fair enough. You never know at the time how much any particular bit of info is likely to ruin a script. It would have made a huge difference to the experience if I'd known the twists in The Crying Game, The Sixth Sense and of course Titanic.
Heh. Pay the icon, but aside from Jack who is a known recurring character, are there any 'quietly introduced as gay and is still alive at the end of the episode' characters? I don't think the boyfriend of the dead guy at the end of the [potential spoiler redacted] episode counts, given that the point is his boyfriend is dead.
Actually, I'm trying to think of any 'quietly introduced as gay character' who lives on any TV show and I'm coming up blank. I'd love some reassurance about now... *wry grin*

Well there's...um......uh... But hey, it's not like there's any guys quietly introduced as straight and still alive at the end of the episode..except for that guy...and that guy..and...uh...
*cough*
You are totally right. Wow.
Wait! Jacks 1940s boyfriend Algie. I think he lives, though I'm not sure he counts. Still, the point stands, pretty much all the background, incidental relationships that aren't evil are straight.
See, I was so busy being happy that not only was one of my favourite british actors guesting on Doctor Who but her character was matter of factly and with no fuss gay, that I completely failed to pick up on that. *hangs head in shame*
All I can say is that at least she wasn't evil and gay, and that her death was mourned?
